Loved this Instapundit post

From Glenn Reynold's weblog
GOOD NEWS FROM THE TROOPS: The Mudville Gazette has articles on both troop recruitment and troop retention. Greyhawk particularly likes this explanation given by a soldier for why he reenlisted: ..."because as I look around at the state of this nation and see all of the weak little pampered candy-asses that are whining about this or protesting that, I'd be afraid to leave the fate of this nation entirely up to them.
Right on troops

Thanks for the post, Russ. As is often the case, I was feeling a bit gloomy until it reminded me that there are plenty of young folks nowadays, who are thoughtful and responsible. A welcome antidote to the constant dripping of the oldsters, who would strike up a bargain with the devil in order to go on enjoying their personal peace and affluence at the expense of others.

I would fight for my country if that was what was in the books. Instead, fighting in the military means being a mercenary imposing empire and death upon innocent people while keeping up the system of inequity that mean very many courageous (disproportionately black, disproportionately women) people here working 60, 80 hour weeks away from their kids will continue to do so for the foreseeable future, their lives not improving. I'll instead endure the death threats of those idiots who think anarchy means chaos and try to create the revolutionary movements that will allow courage to be a term we can utter without shame.

And the real candyasses are those who send others to die in their place, and to a lesser extent our soldiers defended by the greatest armor and military spending on the planet. Yet we dare to call people who are willing to blow themselves up for their cause cowards while we bomb them from thousands of feet in stealth aircraft.
