Podcast: Hear it in their own words, iPod link

James Glassman interviews three hurricane experts on the claim that Global Warming and Katrina Linked? Answer from all three experts--No. Download podcast interviews here.
Shortly after the Gulf Coast was slammed by a Category 4 storm, environmental activist Ross Gelbspan wrote in the Boston Globe that the hurricane was "nicknamed Katrina by the National Weather Service Katrina, [but] its real name was global warming." The idea that Katrina and global warming are linked has been parroted by politicians and pundits since then. Is there any truth to it? According to many experts, the answer is no.

To learn more TCS Host James K. Glassman interviewed:

Dr. William Gray of Colorado State University. Professor Gray has worked in the observational and theoretical aspects of tropical meteorological research for more than 40 years. He has been with Colorado State University's Dept. of Atmospheric Science since 1961, and has been a professor since 1974. Dr. Gray's hurricane forecast has gained international attention, and won him the Neil Frank Award of the National Hurricane Conference in 1995.

Dr. James O'Brien, Director of the Center for Ocean-Atmospheric Prediction Studies at Florida State University, where he is the Robert O. Lawton Distinguished Professor of Meteorology and Oceanography.

Dr. Roy Spencer, is a principal research scientist for University of Alabama in Huntsville and is the U.S. Science Team Leader for the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer (AMSR-E) on NASA's Aqua satellite. In the past, he has served as Senior Scientist for Climate Studies at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama.

Wait a second. The reporter interviewed Gray (who critiqued Kerry Emmanuel's work), O'Brien and Spencer. You say that means that there is no Katrina link to global warming. What the hell? Three scientists does not consensus or evidence make. I've shown you not just three scientists but in fact entire regulatory agencies that think that global warming is causing more hurricanes. There's no problem with questioning evidence and discussing burdens of proof and such, but this attitude you take is totally cavalier.
