Or, in other words,
"It's not nice to (try to) fool mother nature".

Best "quote" of the day:

"How do we, or can we, respond to Mother Nature being menopausal?"

To say that mother nature is menopausal is a slight understatement. If you look at history of the planet you will see that these "little" catastrophes are nothing compared to the real natural disasters of historical or biblical proportions. She is merely trying to keep us awake while we wait for the real deal.

What this hurricane has taught us is two fold. First we cannot rely on our government to help us out. FEMA and the Department of Homeland Security has come right out and said "Have a 72 hour kit ready" and it is not becuase they are going to be quick about getting to you in an emergency. They have already admitted (obviously) that they will not get their act together for AT LEAST 72 hours, so I would think it would be a good idea to be self sufficient for that long, minimum.

Second is that some life changing event can happen at any time. We never know when so it is best to be prepared for it the best we can. Both mentally and physically.
