A good idea

Deborah Russell in "Join our party,"August 17, 2005
Mr. Holmes, you don't have a chance of winning the Republican nomination. As a former Republican myself, I can tell you that your party went off the deep end long ago and is now in the hands of right-wing extremists. Please give serious consideration to joining us Democrats. We could use you.
Wow, another recruit for the Democratic Party! Yes, Mr. Holms, please join the Democratic party, a party on the road into oblivion. Look at the Democratic leadership and listen to their wackey comments on the national news. Any doubt?

Take a look at Republican leadership. One word comes to mind: corrupt.

Holmes is commended for doing what he can to restore the RNC back to a modicum of dignity.

I will agree, the Abramoff may be corrupt if the main stream press conviction stands in court. I would like more proof for Rove, Cheney and Bush. Delay is still and open issue.

I fail to see why Mike Holmes would be considered inconsistent with mainstream Republican values. This is the party of Nelson Rockefeller, Richard Nixon and Dwight Eisenhower.

The republican party once stood for common sense environmental regulations and policies inlcuding the Clean Water Act, the Clean Air Act and the Environmental Protection Act. The republican party once stood for civil rights, and voted for it in the 1950's and early 60's, before breakaway factions used race a wedge to 'realign' the south.

Reading Mr. Holmes statements, I would say he stands for a moderate form of republicanism which is refreshing in this day and age. A republicanism based on rational thought rather than theocratic doctrine.

How positively retro.

Very true, Steve, but a battle is going on for the soul of the Republican party. The Republicans have not represented those things anytime recently.

The Democrats wouldn't be on the decline if a) folks like the blog-writer voted for them, but (more importantly) b) if they actually stuck to core progressive values.
