Things You Should Know

The Global Positioning System, called GPS, is a broadcast only satellite. It does not receive any information from the user. The users location can be displayed, recorded, or sent by cellphone, or other radio means to a tracking facility, or even through another satellite, but not through the GPS satellite. Yet, reporters and columnist when writing about the GPS assign capabilities that it does not have. It is not a big eye in the sky capable of tracking people or vehicles, it is an electronic navigation aid. Remeber that when reading stories about evil GPS tracking devices.
